A group of vulnerable FCT residents, including scavengers, beggars, and petty traders, have sued Minister Nyesom Wike and other government agencies, demanding ₦500 million in damages for alleged violations of their fundamental rights.

The lawsuit, filed by human rights lawyer Abba Hikima at the Federal High Court in Abuja, also names the Inspector-General of Police, DSS Director-General, NSCDC, Attorney-General of the Federation, and the Federal Government as respondents.
Hikima argues that their arbitrary arrest, detention, and harassment violate Sections 34, 35, 41, and 42 of the Nigerian Constitution.
The case follows Wike’s October 22, 2024, directive, which led to a security task force operation on November 12, during which homeless individuals and traders were allegedly mistreated.
Justice James Omotosho adjourned the case to February 4, 2025, after some respondents failed to appear in court.
