Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has stated that he will not interfere with the constitutional duties of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martins Amaewhule, amid ongoing political tensions with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking at a political event in Rivers State, Wike accused Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, of instigating the crisis and claimed to be “two wins ahead” of Fubara.
Wike also addressed criticisms over his recent remarks about the Ijaw ethnic group, arguing that his comments were misinterpreted. However, the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) Youth Wing issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Wike to retract his statements, warning that his actions could weaken President Bola Tinubu’s political support in the Niger Delta.
The group also called for Wike’s removal as FCT Minister, citing past instances of disrespect toward traditional leaders.
Despite protests from Kalabari women and local leaders urging the cancellation of Wike’s event, he attended and dismissed opposition, asserting that his political influence remains strong. Meanwhile, he criticized Governor Fubara’s administration for allegedly marginalizing political allies and mismanaging relationships within the state. PANDEF has vowed to take further action if Wike does not apologize.
