Former Nigerian international Segun Odegbami has praised Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for surpassing his long-standing record as the second-highest goal scorer for the national team. Osimhen’s recent brace against Rwanda in the 2026 World Cup qualifier brought his tally to 25 goals, placing him behind only the late Rashidi Yekini, who holds the record with 37 goals.

Odegbami, speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), expressed confidence in Osimhen’s ability to surpass Yekini’s record, citing his goal-poaching instincts and focus. He noted that the prolonged existence of his and Yekini’s records indicates a lack of top-quality strikers in Nigeria. With Osimhen’s youth and consistency, Odegbami believes he has a strong chance of making history.
