At the Federal High Court in Abuja, Kanu Agabi, SAN, lead counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), apologized on behalf of his client. The apology was directed at Justice Binta Nyako, the prosecution team, and Kanu’s own legal representatives.

Agabi stated that Kanu had been angry for a long time and acknowledged that his outbursts against Justice Nyako were unjustified. He also extended an apology to the Federal Government’s counsel, whom Kanu had previously criticized.
Reacting to this development, Kanu’s wife, Uchechi Kanu, explained in a statement that the apologies were a strategic step toward restoring decorum in the courtroom and easing tensions. She described Agabi as a highly respected legal figure whose approach was necessary to facilitate dialogue and promote peaceful coexistence.
Uchechi further stated that Justice James Omotosho, who is now handling the case, also extended an apology to Kanu for the delays and mishandling of his trial over the years. She expressed hope that these reconciliatory efforts would create a fairer legal environment for her husband’s case.
