Escalating US-Huthi Conflict in Yemen Amid Maritime Tensions

The Huthi rebels in Yemen have accused the United States of conducting airstrikes in Hodeida province, resulting in four deaths and three injuries. The alleged strikes targeted water infrastructure, as well as areas in Hajjah and Saada. The US has not confirmed the attacks, but President Trump has reiterated that strikes will continue until the Huthis no longer pose a threat to maritime trade.

In response, the Huthis claimed to have attacked the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman multiple times within 24 hours. Meanwhile, Washington has deployed a second aircraft carrier, the Carl Vinson, to the region to reinforce security and safeguard commercial shipping.

Since March 15, the US has carried out over 200 strikes against the Iran-backed group, aiming to stop their attacks on international shipping lanes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The Huthis, who had previously targeted Israeli and US ships in solidarity with Palestinians, threatened to resume their assaults after Israel imposed an aid blockade on Gaza.

The conflict has severely disrupted global trade, forcing shipping companies to take longer and more expensive routes around southern Africa.
