Disciplinary actions against thirty one officers for various offences has been approved by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have sanctioned by Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, follow3d a recommendations from the board’s Disciplinary and General-Purpose Committee which met on July 11, 2025..

According to a statement by the Service Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, the sanctions reflect the board’s commitment to promoting integrity, discipline, and accountability within the service.
A breakdown of the disciplinary measures shows that eight officers were dismissed for serious misconduct, five were compulsorily retired, and eight others were demoted by one rank. Additionally, five officers received written warnings, while two appeals for reinstatement were dismissed for lack of merit. However, one officer was reinstated after a successful appeal, and two others were cleared of all allegations, following a thorough review process.
In a related case, two junior NIS personnel were dismissed after being found guilty of criminal conspiracy involving theft, illegal possession of firearms, and kidnapping. Their dismissal came after internal disciplinary proceedings concluded earlier in 2025. Akinlabi affirmed that the disciplinary measures, endorsed by Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap, would be implemented fairly and in line with existing regulations, as the service continues to uphold high ethical and professional standards.
