The Anambra State Police Command has intensified its operations to ensure the safety of residents during and after the Easter period. As part of these efforts, police officers rescued two kidnap victims, arrested three suspects, and recovered a total of 14 pump-action guns along with other dangerous weapons. The command, led by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, conducted operations across the state, including Ihiala and Onitsha, where coordinated efforts between police divisions and local vigilantes yielded positive results.
In one instance, on April 13, armed criminals abducted victims in Amorka Village, Uli, along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway, but the victims were rescued days later. The attackers abandoned their vehicle, which was recovered by the police. Additional arrests were made when officers from the Fegge Division discovered five pump-action guns and other ammunition hidden in a bag of rice inside a parked bus. In another operation, the Rapid Response Squad apprehended a 25-year-old member of the Vikings Confraternity in Nkpor, recovering weapons and gaining intelligence on other cult members.
Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, urged the public to stay law-abiding, alert, and to use the Easter season as a time for reflection and prayers for peace. He encouraged residents to embody Christ’s virtues of humility and selflessness and reassured the public that the command remains committed to maintaining security throughout the state.
