Wike Criticizes Fubara’s Handling of Rivers State Crisis

Former Governor Nyesom Wike has criticized his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, over the escalating political crisis in Rivers State. Following an emergency measure that suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire State House of Assembly, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas was appointed to administer the state. Wike revealed that Fubara had approached him for reconciliation accompanied by two APC governors, despite being a PDP member.

Wike emphasized that peace requires more than verbal declarations, accusing Fubara of failing to heed early warnings from himself and other political allies, including Seyi Makinde, Ortom, Ikpeazu, and Umahi. He suggested that Fubara allowed external influences to cloud his judgment and ignore those who helped him attain office. According to Wike, Fubara’s missteps have caused unnecessary conflict and could have been avoided with wiser counsel.

He further questioned Fubara’s sincerity and capacity to broker peace, pointing to the conduct of his supporters and the lack of engagement with key stakeholders like the assembly members. Wike warned that unless deliberate and genuine efforts are made to resolve the rift, the political crisis would persist, disrupting legislative functions and federal allocations in Rivers State.
