On July 17, 2025, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, met with Nigerian Igbo King Eze (Dr.) Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu in response to a resurfaced 2013 video where the king referenced an “Igbo Kingdom” within Ghana.

Eze Ihenetu clarified that the comments were outdated, no land had ever been acquired for such a purpose, and issued a formal apology to Ghana’s President and people.
The meeting underscored Ghana’s commitment to Pan-African solidarity and respect for national sovereignty, ending with both sides reaffirming peaceful coexistence and strong Ghana–Nigeria relations.
