President Bola Tinubu has honoured the Super Falcons and their technical crew with national awards, cash gifts totaling N4.952 billion, and three-bedroom apartments each following their victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. The players and officials received N4.602 billion from the Presidency and an additional N350 million from the Nigerian Governors Forum during a reception held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all 24 players and the 11-man technical crew. He also directed the allocation of fully furnished three-bedroom apartments to each team member in the Renewed Hope Estate. Additionally, each player received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each crew member received $50,000, based on the exchange rate of N1,560 per dollar.
The Falcons earned these rewards after a remarkable performance at the WAFCON tournament, where they secured first place in their group without conceding a goal. They went on to defeat Zambia 5-0 in the quarter-finals, South Africa 2-1 in the semi-finals, and came from behind to beat hosts Morocco 3-2 in a dramatic final at the Rabat Olympic Stadium, clinching their 10th continental title.
The team also swept individual awards: captain Rasheedat Ajibade was named Player of the Tournament, Chiamaka Nnadozie received Best Goalkeeper, and Coach Justine Madugu was awarded Best Coach. Their triumphant return was marked by a warm reception in Abuja, where Tinubu praised their resilience and described their win as a symbol of Nigeria’s indomitable spirit.
