A fire caused by a thunderstorm on Sunday destroyed Saint Peter’s Primary School in Igbemo, Ekiti State, burning down five classroom blocks. The incident occurred during a heavy downpour but caused no casualties as the school was unoccupied at the time.

On Monday, teachers relocated the affected pupils to AUD Pilot Nursery Primary School to continue their studies. Governor Biodun Oyebanji, represented by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye, visited the site and assured that the government would rebuild the school promptly.
During the visit, the governor also addressed complaints about open defecation and refuse dumping within the premises of AUD Pilot School, ordering immediate action to stop the unhygienic practices. Education officials emphasized the need to complete the school’s perimeter fencing to prevent further health hazards.
