Sixteen Killed in Brutal Bandit Attack on Kebbi Villages

Sixteen people have been confirmed dead following a violent bandit attack on Tungan Taura and Tungan Ladan villages in Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The attack occurred on Saturday, April 6, 2025, around 6:00 PM when heavily armed assailants suspected to be members of the notorious Lakurawa group stormed the communities. According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the attackers, who came in large numbers, also rustled an unspecified number of cattle and clashed with residents, leading to the tragic loss of lives.

In response to the violence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, condemned the incident and assured that justice would be served swiftly. He announced the deployment of additional tactical teams made up of personnel from the police, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and local vigilante groups to strengthen security in the affected areas. CP Sani reiterated the Command’s commitment to eliminating banditry in the state, stating that all available resources would be used to track down and prosecute those responsible for the attack.

The police further confirmed that peace has been restored to the attacked villages and that a full investigation is currently underway. Residents have been urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate with security forces as operations continue. The Command reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding lives and property and restoring lasting peace throughout Kebbi State.
