The Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has criticized the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for relocating its 2025 Annual General Conference from Port Harcourt to Enugu. In a statement issued by his media aide, Ibas described the NBA’s justification—alleging a breach of democratic norms—as misleading and uncharitable. While acknowledging the NBA’s right to choose its venue, he demanded the return of the N300 million already paid by the state for hosting rights.

Ibas defended the constitutional basis of his administration, citing a Supreme Court ruling that validated certain government actions and reiterated his commitment to restoring democratic governance. He called on the NBA to engage constructively rather than politicize complex legal matters.
