Police Rescue 4 Kidnapped Victims, Recover ₦11.3m in Enugu and Ogun

Police officers in Enugu and Ogun States have rescued four kidnapped victims in separate operations. These efforts also led to the death of three suspected kidnappers during gun battles and the recovery of over ₦11.3 million in ransom money. According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, these successful missions highlight the police force’s renewed focus on intelligence-based and tech-driven crime-fighting methods.

In Enugu, the police responded to a distress call from the Okpuje-Ani community in Nsukka on July 16. One of the kidnappers was killed during the encounter, while others escaped with injuries. An AK-47 rifle was recovered. A separate arrest on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway led to the capture of a 23-year-old suspect who confessed to being part of a kidnapping group operating in the area.

Also in Enugu, two women—Juliet and Nancy Chukwu—were arrested on July 15 while splitting a ₦10 million ransom they had taken after kidnapping their own relative. The police rescued the victim safely and recovered a Toyota Corolla and the ransom money from the scene.

Meanwhile, in Ogun State, three people were kidnapped on July 16 near the Ajebo area. On July 19, using tracking technology, police found the kidnappers’ hideout along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. A gunfight broke out, resulting in the deaths of two suspects and the safe rescue of the three victims.

Several items were recovered from the criminals, including two AK-47 rifles, 139 rounds of ammunition, ₦1.23 million in suspected ransom cash, and phones used for ransom talks. The Inspector-General of Police praised the officers for their courage and reaffirmed the force’s commitment to destroying criminal groups and restoring public safety across Nigeria.
