Police Disperse Peaceful Protesters with Tear Gas in Abuja

On Monday, the Nigeria Police Force dispersed peaceful protesters in Abuja’s Maitama area using tear gas, causing chaos among the demonstrators. The protest, organized by the Take-It-Back Movement and other civil society groups, aimed to highlight key national concerns, including alleged abuse of the Cybercrime Act, economic hardship, and the situation in Rivers State. Protesters carried placards with messages like “Stop the Repression” and “Let Us Breathe.” Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore was present to support the movement.

According to the group’s coordinator, Juwon Sanyaolu, the demonstration opposed the administration’s growing authoritarianism and called for urgent economic and security reforms. No injuries or arrests were reported at the time, though tensions remain high.
