The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed widespread social media reports claiming that Navy officer Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima survived an assassination attempt in Abuja.

According to the police PublicRelati9ns Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, no such incident was reported anywhere in the FCT, and the circulating accounts of unidentified men in unmarked Hilux vans chasing Yerima were described as false and capable of inciting unnecessary public panic.
The rumours gained traction due to Yerima’s recent confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over a disputed land allocation in Gaduwa District, reportedly owned by former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Zubairu Gambo (retd.). Viral videos captured Yerima blocking Wike’s inspection team, leading to a heated exchange in which the minister accused the officer of obstructing lawful duties and verbally berated him.
The incident has since sparked nationwide debate, with some defending Wike’s actions as part of his official responsibilities, while military veterans strongly backed Yerima and rejected calls for disciplinary action. Minister of Defence Mohammed Abubakar later assured the public that no military officer acting within lawful duty would be punished, reinforcing the government’s commitment to protecting its personnel.
