The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 54-year-old father Edward Odega, after confessing to sexually abusing his three daughters for seven years. Odega admitted that he began defiling his first daughter when she was just 12 years old and continued the abuse with his other two daughters, now aged 13 and 15.
The eldest daughter, now 24, was also confirmed to have been abused over the same period.
The case came to light when one of the children bravely spoke up during a school outreach programme led by CSP Temi Agbede Zuokumor of the Ogborikoko Division. The police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, explained that the child’s disclosure prompted immediate investigation, which resulted in the father’s arrest. According to the police, the consistent abuse had gone undetected for years until the school intervention created a safe space for the victim to report.
All three children have been taken to the hospital for comprehensive medical examinations and care. The Delta State Police Command emphasised the importance of community sensitisation, early reporting, and school-based awareness programmes in uncovering cases of child sexual abuse. The incident underscores the urgent need for stronger protective systems, child-friendly reporting channels, and continuous public education on identifying and preventing sexual violence within homes.
