Angry youths in Okon-Aku community, Abia State have been reportedly causing further unrest by setting fire to houses, vehicles, and other properties following the murder of a man named Igwe Akuma from Ndi Uma compound just days before his planned wedding.
While expressing sympathy to the victim’s family, 5he traditional leaders of Ohafia, led by the Udumeze Ezie Ohamoha Awa Orji Udonsi, strongly condemned the killing and the destruction, They emphasized that no reason justifies such violence, especially at the start of the new year.
The Udumeze also called for peace between the rival compounds Ndi Owom and Ndi Uma and assured that they are collaborating with security forces to prevent the conflict from worsening.
Police confirmed the arrests of some suspects involved in the crisis. Tactical teams have been deployed to restore order, and the suspects are currently under investigation.
