“No Water, No Vote”:  Youths In Plateau Statged Protest Over  Scarcity Water Supply

The Plateau State Government has directed relevant authorities to intensify efforts to end the crisis, following a protest staged by Youths on Wednesday in Mabudi the headquarters of Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State over severe water shortage in the community.

Tudun Wada broadcast report that the crowded protesters holding signage and wearing T-shirts with “No Water, No Vote” marched through the town demanding immediate access to clean and safe drinking water.

Speaking during the protest, youth leader Nanlir Gambo said residents have suffered for years without a reliable water supply and are forced to use unsafe sources. He said women and children are the most affected, as they travel long distances daily in search of water.

The youths warned that they may boycott future elections if government fails to provide a lasting solution.

In response, the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of Langtang South LGA, Butko Bako Iliya, said the council has been supplying water to communities through tankers since the dry season began.

The Permanent Secretary of the Plateau State Ministry of Water Resources and Energy, Lohnan V. Gambo, also visited Mabudi and announced that both immediate and long-term solutions are underway, including a geophysical survey to identify sustainable water sources.

Community leaders have welcomed the government’s intervention and expressed hope that the water challenge will soon be resolved.
