In a renewed offensive against insurgency, troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled a major attack by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in New Marte, Borno State. The confrontation, which started in the early hours of Tuesday, followed an earlier assault where terrorists had briefly overrun a military base and displaced residents. With reinforcements and strategic backing from Governor Babagana Zulum, the community was recaptured and secured.

The latest encounter saw a coordinated counter-operation involving both ground forces and aerial support. Military sources confirmed that dozens of insurgents were killed during the operation, with surviving terrorists pursued as they fled the scene. Marte’s proximity to the porous borders of the Lake Chad Basin has made it a frequent target for cross-border terrorist infiltration, underscoring the strategic importance of the region.
Despite the success of the operation, the military suffered casualties, with two soldiers losing their lives in the line of duty. The Nigerian Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to securing the area and maintaining pressure on insurgent groups operating in the region.
