President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of Nigerian children, describing them as the “pride and future of our great nation” in his address to mark the 2025 International Children’s Day.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the President emphasized the critical need for collective action to address the growing issues of bullying, violence, and neglect affecting millions of children across the country. Highlighting the alarming statistics, Tinubu revealed that up to 65 percent of school-age children in Nigeria have reportedly experienced some form of bullying. This stark figure underscored the urgent need for stronger frameworks to protect children and provide them with a safe space for learning and growth.
In response to these concerns, President Tinubu unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at bolstering child protection mechanisms across the country. These initiatives will focus on creating safer learning environments, addressing the root causes of violence and bullying in schools, and ensuring that no Nigerian child is left behind in the quest for a better future.
Aligning his message with the theme for this year’s International Children’s Day, “Stand Up, Speak Up: Building a Bullying-Free Generation,” President Tinubu called on all sectors of society to take action. He stressed that it is not enough to simply recognize the problem but to actively work towards a society where bullying is no longer tolerated.
