The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Jigawa State seized 1,944.389kg of illicit drugs valued at about ₦2.8bn in 2025, as part of intensified efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking. The disclosure was made by the State Commander, Hassan Kabaju, during a briefing on the command’s 2025 activities at its headquarters in Dutse.
Kabaju said the seized drugs included 441.973kg of cannabis sativa, 1,373.886kg of psychotropic substances, and 128.520kg of other drugs of abuse. Within the year, the command arrested 577 suspects—558 males and 19 females—and secured convictions for 136 drug peddlers.
In addition to enforcement, the commander said the agency focused on drug demand reduction by counselling 552 drug users, while 59 male drug-dependent persons were referred for treatment and rehabilitation. The command also carried out 39,383 drug prevention lectures and advocacy campaigns in schools, including tertiary institutions, under its War Against Drug Abuse programme.
Despite these achievements, Kabaju noted challenges such as inadequate vehicles and operational equipment. He assured that the NDLEA would continue its operations across all 27 local government areas of the state, commended his officers for their dedication, and called for continued public support in the fight against drug abuse.
