French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed support for Israel’s right to defend itself following its recent airstrikes on Iran, which targeted over 100 sites, including nuclear and military facilities. Speaking on X, Macron emphasized the need to avoid escalating tensions in the region.
Macron called for “maximum restraint” from all parties to prevent further destabilization in the Middle East. He stressed the importance of de-escalation to maintain regional stability amid growing international concerns.
The French president made his remarks after convening a National Defence and Security Council meeting. He assured that France would take all necessary measures to protect its citizens and diplomatic interests in the region.
France’s Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, also echoed Macron’s sentiments, urging all parties involved to avoid further escalation that could threaten regional peace and security.
Tensions with Iran have been heightened by its gradual withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal, following the U.S. exit from the agreement in 2018 under former President Donald Trump. The collapse of the deal has contributed to rising instability in the region.
