LAUTECH Suspends Activities At Iseyin Campus After Tragic adeath Of Student

All academic activities at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Iseyin campus, has been suspendedbfor two weeks following the death of a 200-level Agricultural Economics student who was killed by a hit-and-run commercial driver along the Iseyin/Saki Road in Oyo State.

The tragic incident occurred on Friday morning, leaving the university community in shock and grief.

According to findings, the driver fled the scene after the accident, prompting anger among students who later staged a protest. In the heat of the protest, the commercial vehicle involved in the accident was reportedly set ablaze. The situation heightened tensions within the campus environment, leading to calls for calm and institutional intervention.

Confirming the development, the Registrar, Olayinka Balogun, expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the university and announced that students of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources are to go on a compulsory two-week break. Academic activities are expected to resume on Monday, November 24, 2025, while essential service staff will receive specific instructions as needed.

This incident mirrors previous cases where educational institutions were temporarily shut down following student-related tragedies, such as the closure of Smiley Kids Montessori School in Lagos after the drowning of a two-year-old pupil. Both cases highlight the need for heightened safety awareness, preventive measures, and emotional support within academic communities.
