Speaking at a National Youth Fellowship Convention in Abuja, YOWICAN National Secretary, Elijah Bako, described the statement as a necessary wake-up call rather than interference in Nigeria’s sovereignty. He argued that persistent killings, kidnappings, and destruction of Christian communities in northern and Middle Belt states have reached a breaking point.

He insisted that the pattern of attacks suggests a deliberate effort to eliminate Christian presence in affected regions. Citing the experiences of victims such as Leah Sharibu and Deborah Samuel, he emphasized that Christian communities continue to feel abandoned and unprotected, despite overwhelming evidence of targeted violence. expressed support for United States President Donald Trump’s recent statement alleging that Christians are being targeted and killed in Nigeria.

Former Governor Seriake Dickson also weighed in, stating that Trump’s comments bring global attention to a crisis that has claimed thousands of lives over the years. However, he stressed the need to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty while acknowledging that international cooperation may be required to address terrorism and extremist violence. Dickson noted that the insecurity problem affects multiple religious and ethnic groups, not solely Christians.

In response, President Bola Tinubu announced that his administration is engaged in diplomatic discussions with global leaders regarding Trump’s remarks. He reassured Nigerians that the government remains committed to defeating terrorism and restoring national stability. Tinubu emphasized that while Nigeria welcomes global partnerships, its decisions and sovereignty will not be undermined by external forces.
