Veteran actress, Joke Silva said that the Planned reviving of the abandoned Tinapa Film Village in Calaba should be seen as restoring a dream that once fueled creativity and economic potential in the South-South region and not.
The call comes ahead of the Cross River International Investment Summit scheduled to take place in London, focused on attracting partnerships and promoting sectors such was tourism, ICT, and creative industries. Organizers and stakeholders, including diaspora representatives, believe the summit could be a turning point, with Tinapa positioned as a priority example of how public-private partnerships can transform dormant assets into thriving economic centres.
Speaking in Abuja, she argued that with the right political will, strategic planning, and collaboration between government and private investors, highlighted that the facility was originally intended to serve as a major hub for filmmaking and tourism, with world-class studios and accommodations that could have significantly boosted Nigeria’s film industry. However, the site now lies neglected and deteriorating despite its early promise.
“Tinapa could attract global filmmakers, investors, and tourists, thereby creating large-scale employment opportunities for Nigerian youth”, he stressed.
