The Lagos State Government has introduced 3,941 new parking slots across strategic locations as part of its plan to reduce traffic congestion and curb illegal parking. The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during a media briefing to mark Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second year in office. The initiative is aimed at improving vehicular movement and minimizing roadside obstructions by offering residents structured parking alternatives.

Osiyemi emphasized the critical role of the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), which is responsible for enforcing parking regulations and ensuring public compliance with parking policies. To enhance effectiveness, the state has been divided into five major parking zones—Ikoyi, Ikeja, Lekki, Victoria Island, and Surulere—allowing for better management and response to area-specific parking challenges.
To support the initiative, 669 directional signages have been installed along key roads to guide motorists to appropriate parking spaces. The Commissioner urged road users to comply with designated parking zones to avoid sanctions, stressing that the effort is part of the government’s broader commitment to improving public infrastructure and quality of life in Lagos.
