Aggrieved workers of Kaduna Electric Distribution Company went on strike Monday, demanding the withdrawal of alleged termination letters issued to 900 employees and the payment of entitlements. The workers also protested non-payment of pensions, lack of promotions, inadequate work tools, and non-implementation of the 2024 National Minimum Wage.

The strike led to severe water shortages as electricity disruptions affected boreholes. Residents, including women and children, struggled to fetch water, with prices from water vendors skyrocketing.
In Kafanchan, protesters marched peacefully, condemning the mass terminations and poor working conditions. They displayed placards demanding entitlements and respect for workers’ rights.
Company representatives disputed the number of affected workers but promised a formal statement. Despite inconveniencing residents and businesses across Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara states, the union vowed to continue until their demands were met.
