ICPC Uncovers 908 Fake Workers, Recovers ₦942 Million During Physical Payroll Audit

As as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate payroll fraud and strengthen transparency in the management of government finances, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says it has uncovered 908 fake workers during a payroll audit, leading to the recovery of ₦942 million in public funds.

According to the commission, the recovered funds were linked to salaries that had been fraudulently paid to non-existent employees.

The ICPC stated that the exercise forms part of its broader anti-corruption initiatives aimed at ensuring accountability in the public sector. The commission added that investigations are continuing to identify those responsible for the fraudulent scheme.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to tackling corruption and safeguarding public resources, stressing that anyone found culpable will face appropriate legal action. It also encouraged public institutions to strengthen their payroll verification processes to prevent similar cases in the future.
