As part of ongoing efforts to reposition the Gombe State Civil Service for greater efficiency and effectiveness, the Head of Service of Gombe State, Professor Muazu Shehu, has paid his first official visit to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, at her office in Abuja.
The high-level visit aimed to solicit support and strengthen collaboration with the nation’s top civil servant in order to actualise the strategic objectives of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s civil service reform agenda.
Speaking during the visit, Professor Shehu emphasised Governor Yahaya’s commitment to modernising the civil service as a vehicle for policy implementation and quality service delivery. He noted that the Governor is keen on implementing innovative ideas that will enhance efficiency, professionalism, and accountability across the state’s public service.
Professor Shehu commended Mrs. Walson-Jack for the far-reaching reforms currently being implemented under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing them as a model for subnational governments. He stressed that critical reforms at the federal level must be replicated at the state level to ensure effective governance, particularly in sectors such as education, healthcare, and environmental management, which fall under the concurrent legislative list.
The Gombe State Head of Service further highlighted priority areas where federal support and collaboration would be invaluable, including the development of a comprehensive Training Policy for the State Civil Service; conduct of Skills and Training Gap Analysis; and capacity building initiatives to strengthen institutional performance
In her response, Mrs. Walson-Jack congratulated Professor Shehu on his appointment and pledged her full support in advancing Governor Yahaya’s reform agenda. She underscored the importance of innovation, digitisation, and performance monitoring in today’s fast-changing world, noting that public service must continuously evolve to meet societal needs and optimise resource utilisation.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation assured Professor Shehu of her readiness to provide guidance and technical support whenever required, reaffirming her commitment to fostering synergy between the federal and state civil services for sustainable national development.
