From Nollywood to the U.S. Navy: Grace-Charis Bassey’s Remarkable Journey

Nigerian actress Grace-Charis Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, has successfully completed U.S. Navy boot camp and officially become a Sailor and U.S. citizen.

The 35-year-old Cross River native shared the milestone on Instagram, posting photos and videos from her graduation ceremony. She expressed deep gratitude and credited her achievement to her faith, determination, and cultural heritage.

Grace dedicated this accomplishment to her late father, Naval Commander Asido Bassey Effah of the Nigerian Navy. In her emotional tribute, she highlighted how Nigeria shaped her and how the U.S. challenged her, ultimately making her stronger and more determined. She described her journey as difficult but fulfilling, carrying her roots, faith, and vision every step of the way.

Having changed her name in 2021 after a spiritual experience, Grace-Charis continues to embrace her creative talents by joining the U.S. Navy choir. Known for her roles in films like Kokomma and Miracle, and winning the Most Promising Act at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards, Grace-Charis Bassey marks this new chapter as just the beginning of greater achievements.
