A tragic multiple vehicle accident on Tuesday at the Soka area of the Ibadan-Lagos expressway claimed five lives, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Oyo State. FRSC spokesperson Mayowa Odewo confirmed the deaths, stating that the victims included a male child, one man, and three women. The accident involved seven vehicles, including three articulated trucks, two private cars, and two Nissan Micra taxis, all of which sustained severe damage.
Odewo revealed that one of the deceased was released to a family member with police consent, while the remaining four bodies were taken to the Adeoyo State Hospital mortuary. The FRSC has not disclosed the number of injured persons, but the severity of the crash suggests significant casualties and disruption.
An eyewitness recounted that the accident began when an articulated truck attempted to reverse from an abandoned filling station and was hit from behind by another moving truck. The collision caused a chain reaction, leading to a pile-up that involved additional trucks, private cars, and taxis. Emergency services responded to the scene to manage the aftermath.
