The Federal Government said is seeking private investors on more than 4,000 abandoned mine pits identified across Plateau State as potential investment opportunities in the power, tourism and fisheries sectors.
The government said the abandoned mining sites, which have been left unused for years, could be transformed into productive ventures that would generate revenue, create jobs and stimulate economic development in the state.
Authorities are now seeking private investors to develop the sites and turn them into commercially viable projects. The proposed investments are expected to focus on renewable power generation, tourism facilities and fisheries, depending on the suitability of each location.
The initiative is also aimed at addressing the environmental and economic challenges associated with abandoned mining sites while creating new opportunities for local communities.
