The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has directed manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers across Nigeria to immediately withdraw consumer goods that do not comply with mandatory product labelling requirements.

The Commission said it had observed the increasing circulation and sale of products carrying incomplete, misleading or deceptive information. According to the FCCPC, such practices can prevent consumers from accessing the accurate information they need to make informed purchasing decisions and may expose them to health, safety and financial risks.
The directive was issued in a public advisory released on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen consumer protection and market standards.
The FCCPC urged businesses to review their inventories and remove all non-compliant products from sale. It noted that product labelling must meet applicable standards set by relevant regulatory bodies, including the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The Commission also warned businesses that continue to distribute or sell products that fail to meet the required standards could face regulatory enforcement action. The move is aimed at protecting consumers, improving transparency in the marketplace and ensuring that businesses comply with Nigeria’s consumer protection and product safety regulations.
