A longstanding land dispute between the Abaomege and Ishinkwo communities in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has claimed over 100 lives in the past five years, according to LGA Chairman Ikechukwu Ogboffia. The conflict, which dates back to 1912, remains unresolved despite government intervention.

Women from Ishinkwo staged a protest at the Ebonyi State Government House, accusing officials of favoring Abaomege in the ongoing land demarcation. They demanded transparency, the use of the official survey map, and the replacement of the demarcation leader, Deputy Surveyor-General Mr. Ekeroku, whom they accused of disregarding legal guidelines. The protesters also called for the reversal of land allocations they claim were mistakenly ceded to Abaomege.
In their petition to Governor Francis Nwifuru, the women urged him to intervene and restore fairness to the process. They also accused the LGA Chairman, Mr. Ogboffia, of partiality, calling on him to ensure Ishinkwo’s reconnection to the national power grid.
Both Ogboffia and Ekeroku denied the allegations, stating that the demarcation process was intended to bring lasting peace to the warring communities.
