A driver identified as Isiaka Afolabi has been arraigned before the Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over a charge of manslaughter following the tragic death of a 14-year-old boy. The fatal incident occurred on April 22 at about 3:30 p.m. when Afolabi, driving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) with registration number AGL 122 BJ, allegedly struck the teenager while driving recklessly.

Police prosecutor Inspector Edet Ekpo stated that Afolabi operated the vehicle in a dangerous and negligent manner on a public road, showing a clear disregard for the safety of others. This conduct is said to violate Sections 27 and 19 of the Road Traffic Act, Cap 124, Laws of Lagos State. The young victim reportedly died on the spot due to the impact.
Afolabi pleaded not guilty during his arraignment. Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted him bail in the sum of N1,000,000 with two sureties who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide proof of employment. The case has been adjourned until July 9 for further hearing.
