In February 2022, 22-year-old Bamise Ayanwole boarded a BRT bus at Chevron in Lekki around 7:30 pm, planning to visit her brother’s family for the weekend.

She quickly became uneasy as the bus was dark, she was the only passenger at first, and the driver was acting strange. She sent voice notes and videos to a friend, sharing her location and saying, “Please, pray for me.” That was unfortunately the last time anyone heard from her.
A few days later, her body was found near Carter Bridge. The driver, Andrew Ominikoron, went into hiding but was eventually arrested. He gave conflicting stories, first admitting to assa ult, then claiming armed rubbers hijacked the bus and took Bamise.
After a long trial and massive public outcry, he has been sentenced to death by hanging.
