Former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has reaffirmed his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dispelling speculations of a defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). In a meeting with women members of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), he emphasized the need for a pan-Nigerian coalition to challenge the ruling APC and rebuild Nigeria. Atiku cited historical alliances like the NPN-NPP accord to show the viability of political coalitions, assuring that the PDP’s identity would remain intact.

The PDP BoT women, led by Hajia Inna Ciroma, initiated the visit amid growing concerns about the party’s leadership vacuum and internal crisis. They described their action as a necessary intervention to rescue the party from collapse. Ciroma highlighted their discussions with Atiku centered on restoring leadership, enhancing party funding, and involving all stakeholders in party ownership and revival.
The visit is part of broader efforts by the PDP BoT women to confront rising defections and factional disputes that have plagued the party since the 2023 elections. Their strategy includes direct engagement with party leaders, governors, and stakeholders, beginning with a recent extensive meeting with Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum. The women aim to stabilize the party and restore its relevance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
