Arsenal Women are poised to make football history with a groundbreaking £1 million ($1.4 million) bid for Canadian forward Olivia Smith, according to ESPN. If the deal goes through, Smith will become the first female footballer to command a seven-figure transfer fee, surpassing the current record set by Chelsea’s $1.1 million signing of Naomi Girma in January.

The 20-year-old forward, who was recently crowned Liverpool’s Player of the Season for 2024–25 after scoring nine goals across all competitions, has attracted interest from top clubs including Chelsea and Lyon. However, Arsenal are reportedly close to finalizing the deal after their offer was accepted and personal terms are being negotiated.
Smith joined Liverpool from Sporting CP only last summer but quickly rose to prominence with her standout performances. This transfer aligns with Arsenal’s strategy to refresh their squad following their UEFA Women’s Champions League victory and marks their second signing from Liverpool this summer, following the arrival of Taylor Hinds on a free transfer.
