The All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections by launching a large-scale membership registration campaign across Nigeria. At the party’s 14th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu emphasized the importance of expanding the party’s grassroots support and urged the formation of a committee to oversee seamless registration for both existing and new members.
Eleven APC state chapters have pledged a combined 15.2 million votes for President Tinubu’s re-election. The North Central zone leads the charge with a promise of six million votes, following the appointment of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as the new national chairman of the APC. Other strongholds include Akwa Ibom (3.5 million votes), Edo (2.5 million), Benue (2 million), and a combined 1.2 million from Oyo and Ekiti States.
In Ebonyi State, the APC has launched its online registration portal, enabling both new and old members to register from home. The party’s state chairman, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, stated that ward chairmen have already begun distributing the portal links, highlighting the move as a major step toward party unity and strategy ahead of the elections.
Delta and Edo States are also witnessing large-scale defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, with registration processes already underway. APC leaders in Delta have instructed local officials to register new members without bureaucratic barriers, especially following Governor Oborevwori’s defection. In Edo, officials have started using the national portal for new entries.
Meanwhile, states like Enugu and Oyo are awaiting final directives from the APC national leadership before launching full-scale registration. Enugu APC plans to boost Tinubu’s popularity through government achievements and appointments. The ongoing efforts signal a major mobilisation wave as the APC aims to consolidate power ahead of 2027 and counter opposition threats.
