Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed the Green Legacy Hotel within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library premises in Abeokuta, Ogun State, in the early hours of Sunday, arresting several youths suspected of internet fraud. The raid, which took place during a pool party, saw operatives reportedly from the EFCC Lagos Directorate seize over 20 luxury cars and other valuables.

This incident occurred just five days after the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested a suspected fraudster with two locally-made pistols during a separate raid at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro, Ogun State. That operation also resulted in the arrest of 55 other suspects. In Sunday’s raid at the Obasanjo Library, a viral video showed partygoers scrambling for safety as gunshots were heard in the background.
An X user, identified as A. Ayomide, recounted narrowly missing the raid, stating that he had left the venue about 20 minutes before it occurred. He described the large crowd at the party and noted that he and a friend decided to stay in the car park instead of joining the event, leaving before EFCC operatives arrived.
The Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, confirmed the EFCC raid but declined to give further details, promising more information later. EFCC spokespersons Ayo Oyewole and Dele Oyewale both acknowledged inquiries from the press, with Oyewole stating he was not yet aware of the operation and Oyewale promising to confirm the details.
