The Cross River State Government has announced a thorough review of transportation safety protocols around the Obudu Cattle Ranch following a tragic accident that claimed the lives of four Catholic seminarians and injured nine others. The victims, from the Enugu Catholic Diocese, were descending the Ranch hill in a vehicle that suffered a brake failure after a guided tour when the crash occurred at the Ikwette community, near the Ranch’s base.

In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nsa Gill, the government expressed deep condolences to the affected families and affirmed its commitment to uncovering the exact cause of the crash. It emphasized the importance of vehicle roadworthiness and adherence to safety guidelines, reassuring the public that safety remains a priority at the Ranch and other tourist sites across the state.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Nigerian Army stationed at the Ranch, quickly arrived at the scene to assist the victims. The injured are currently receiving medical treatment, and the government is working to contact and support the families of the deceased. While the full identities of the victims remain undisclosed, authorities are urging respect for their families’ privacy during this period of mourning.
