Ruger Reveals Childhood Heartbreak That Shaped His Behavior

Nigerian singer Ruger, born Michael Adebayo Olayinka, recently opened up about a deeply personal and traumatic childhood experience that influenced his emotional development. Speaking on The Bro Bants show, Ruger shared that he experienced his first heartbreak at the tender age of six when he discovered that an older woman he admired was involved with another man.

He recounted how the woman used to affectionately call him “my boyfriend,” which led him to believe she had romantic feelings for him. However, his illusions were shattered one day when he saw her being intimate with another man through a window. This unexpected and painful moment left him devastated and deeply affected his perception of relationships.

According to Ruger, the incident marked the beginning of what he described as a “toxic” phase in his life. He revealed that the heartbreak was so intense that he began singing “Imagine That” by Styl-Plus as a way of coping with the emotional pain. The experience, though occurring at such a young age, had a lasting impact on him and shaped his behavior in subsequent years.
