The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) carried out a landmark operation in Ogun State where 1.6 million kilograms of illicit drugs were destroyed. The event, held in Ipara town along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, was hosted by Tijana Rabe, the Ogun NDLEA Commander, and marked the first large-scale destruction of seized drugs in the state. The operation involved narcotics collected from various commands, including Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and major border points like MMIA, Seme, and Idiroko. Rabe credited the success to collaborative efforts from other security agencies, including the Nigerian Police, NSCDC, Army, Immigration, and Amotekun, while also appreciating the state government’s ongoing support.

Maj.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), Chairman of the NDLEA, emphasized that the operation demonstrates the agency’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria. Represented by Dr Ibrahim Abdul, Marwa described the event as proof of the agency’s resolve under President Bola Tinubu’s administration to fight drug crimes. He highlighted the gravity of the situation by listing the types and quantities of drugs destroyed: over 1.4 million kg of cannabis, 123 kg of cocaine, 46.8 kg of heroin, 148,000 kg of codeine syrup, and several other substances including methamphetamine and skuchies.
The NDLEA noted that Lagos and Ogun States continue to be key hotspots for drug trafficking due to their strategic international and land borders. Marwa asserted that traffickers should be aware that the enforcement climate has changed, as the agency is prepared to take firm action against all violators of Nigeria’s drug laws. Over the last four years, the NDLEA has successfully convicted 10,572 drug offenders, a testament to the seriousness of the ongoing war against illicit drug activities in the country.
