Former President Goodluck Jonathan has criticized the suspension of elected officials in Rivers State, warning that such actions could damage Nigeria’s international reputation. Speaking at the Haske Satumari Foundation Colloquium in Abuja, he expressed concern over the implications of executive and legislative decisions on the country’s democratic image and investment climate.

Jonathan’s remarks follow President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, which led to the six-month suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and state lawmakers. The former president stressed that judicial independence must be upheld to maintain public confidence in governance.
