The Young Progressives Party (YPP) urged Nigerians to demand stronger accountability from public officeholders, especially as fiscal reforms and a new tax law are expected to boost government revenue. The party warned that increased revenue without transparency, prudence, and accountability would only deepen public mistrust and worsen hardship. Citizens, it said, must closely scrutinise public spending and insist on clear answers from leaders.
The party stressed that surrendering sovereignty should never mean silence in the face of bad governance, urging citizens to mobilise actively ahead of the 2027 elections to vote out incompetent, corrupt, and insensitive leaders. According to the party, the survival of Nigeria’s democracy depends on participation, not apathy.
The party further cautioned against the politicisation of anti-corruption agencies, particularly the EFCC. It argued that selective justice and the use of anti-graft institutions against political opponents undermine democracy, weaken institutions, and erode public confidence. The fight against corruption, YPP insisted, must be sincere, impartial, and free from political bias.
On the new tax law, YPP maintained that Nigeria’s core problem is not revenue generation but poor and wasteful expenditure management. It criticised extravagant spending by public officials and called for accountability before the law’s full implementation. The party demanded that discrepancies in the tax law be resolved and that those responsible for mismanagement and abuse of public funds be investigated and punished according to the law.
