Aisha Suleiman, falsely accused of poisoning five people with pepper soup, has been cleared after investigations revealed the victims died from inhaling generator fumes.
In October 2024, Aisha faced near-lynching when a post on X (formerly Twitter) accused her of poisoning her boyfriend and four friends. Despite being away in Iyakpi during the incident, enraged community members publicly humiliated her, tied her up, and doused her with petrol, intending to set her ablaze.
Authorities intervened to save her, but she was arrested and charged in court. Human rights activists intervened, prompting an investigation that confirmed carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause of death.
Aisha denied cooking pepper soup for anyone and revealed strained relations with her late boyfriend’s family. Calls for legal action against the accuser have since emerged.
