Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong is scheduled to undergo minor surgery in Finland this week to address an injury sustained during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Troost-Ekong picked up the injury during Nigeria’s second group game against hosts Cote d’Ivoire, where he played a pivotal role by scoring the winning goal from the penalty spot.
Despite the injury, the 30-year-old missed the following game against Guinea-Bissau but returned to play every minute of the Super Eagles’ remaining matches in the tournament.
The former Watford player, who scored three goals for Nigeria during the AFCON 2023 finals, was rightfully awarded the Player of the Tournament title for his outstanding performance.
Troost-Ekong’s surgery is expected to address the injury he sustained during the competition, allowing him to return to play for his Greek club side, PAOK, towards the end of the season.
