In commemoration of President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike surprised Abuja residents by unveiling 19 major completed projects, later scaled down to 17 for commissioning due to the president’s schedule. The projects, ranging from road constructions to water supply networks and transport terminals, have significantly improved infrastructure across various parts of the FCT. President Tinubu commissioned several of these projects personally, while others were commissioned by key government officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
Residents have expressed amazement at the swift transformation of the FCT, noting that such a pace of development is unprecedented. Among the major completed works are the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, several arterial roads, a massive water supply network, and key transport terminals. These infrastructure upgrades have improved mobility, aesthetics, and connectivity across major districts and suburbs, including Katampe, Wasa, Idu-Zuba, and Kwali. Locals in towns like Pai and Gomani now enjoy better access to schools and health centers, thanks to newly completed roads.
The response from Abuja residents has been overwhelmingly positive. Senate President Akpabio, reflecting on his experience in previous administrations, commended the unprecedented progress. Ordinary citizens, including civil servants and Uber drivers, acknowledged the functionality and beauty of the projects. A driver from Jahi praised the time-saving road improvements and urged security agencies to ensure safety around the newly constructed bridges. Another resident highlighted the Idu–Zuba road as an unexpected achievement. The praise reflects broad satisfaction across various districts benefiting from the infrastructure boom.
However, not all areas have been touched. Residents of Kubwa, Abuja’s largest suburban town, are calling on Wike to extend development to their community. They lauded the minister’s achievements but expressed concern over neglected roads like Gado Nasko, Arab Road, and Sultan Dasuki Road. Kubwa locals pointed out that the area’s massive population and economic importance warrant urgent intervention. They appealed to the minister to include Kubwa in future budgets, hoping his “magic wand” would soon reach their part of the city.
