The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has launched an investigation into the death of a woman, Greatness Olorunfemi who was alleged to have died within the premises of the Maitama District General Hospital, Abuja due to negligence.
The Mandate Secretary of Health Services and Environment, Adedolapo Fasawe on Thursday, October 5, in Abuja, inaugurated the 9-member independent investigative panel on behalf of the minister to probe the circumstances surrounding the death of the young woman.
Fasawe also revealed that the Health Services and Environment Secretariat has concluded plans to commence a mortality review in FCT health facilities with the aim of reinvigorating the process.
She said it is a new dawn where accountability and transparency will be brought to bear in healthcare service delivery in the FCT.
While inaugurating the probe panel, Fasawe said the unfortunate death of the one-chance cab victim is not only unacceptable but should serve as a catalyst to proffering enduring solutions to the issues generated by the incident.
The panel has one week to carry out the investigation and submit its report.
She said the members of the panel were nominated to help bring to bear their wealth of experience through painstaking investigation and interaction to unravel what led to the ugly incident and proffer enduring solutions.
The terms of reference of the panel include ascertaining the clinical status at the time of arrival of the patient and any progression to and until death; determining the role of parties in the matter of Ms Greatness Olorunfemi and her unfortunate death; and making recommendations for similar situations like this case.
